Marek Kvetan
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (1995–2001) and at Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology (1999). He is both a freelancer and a teacher in the Cabinet of Drawings at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Kvetan’s work is distinguished by strategies of manipulation, transformation and appropriation. The meaning of Marek Kvetan’s work finds its stimuli in the transformations and sublimation of globalised civilisation’s cultural identity. In his more recent pieces as well, concepts linked with art such as aestheticism, cliché, repetitiveness and the decadence of taste provide a point of departure. His approach is like the role of an artist-revisionist who blurs the boundaries between fields of visual culture through a play of symbols and materials and the balance between art and non-art. His artworks are part of the collections of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, National Gallery in Prague, State Gallery in Banská Bystrica and CBK Dordrecht, Netherlands. Besides his art production, he is known for being a co-founder of Central European Institute of Contemporary Art (CEICA), Dart magazine, Multiplace festival and the international network Billboart Gallery Europe.
